Catalonia’s Vice President inquires about Québec's electoral processes

Kathleen Weil, Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, and Joana Ortega, Vice President of Catalonia, at the end of their meeting at Domaine Cataraqui.

As part of a cooperation project between the Catalonian government and the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Joana Ortega, Vice President of Catalonia, led a delegation to Quebec City on June 28 and 29. This visit is one of the results of the mission made to Catalonia in March by Jacques Drouin, Chief Electoral Officer.

In an effort to better understand Québec electoral processes, the Catalonian Vice President and Minister spent her official visit in various working meetings to discuss electoral laws (general elections and referendums), the permanent list of electors, the production of the electoral map of Québec and the election organizational procedures in Québec.

Vice President Ortega also met with Kathleen Weil, Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, to specifically discuss professional mobility in connection with the related joint declaration and the pilot project that is currently underway. It should be noted that a joint declaration on cooperation in workforce mobility between Québec and Catalonia was signed by both parties in February during Minister Weil's mission in Catalonia.

A presentation on Québec’s place in Canadian federalism was also given to the Vice President during her meeting at the Secrétariat aux affaires intergouvernementales canadiennes (SAIC).
