Mumbai: a very Québécois National Holiday celebration

Québec’s National Holiday celebrations in India were a tremendous success for a third year. Organized by the Québec Government Office in Mumbai, the event attracted over 200 guests from the political, diplomatic, artistic, cultural and business communities. The activity benefited from the collaboration of the World Trade Center - Mumbai, which signed a partnership agreement with the World Trade Center - Montréal on January 30, 2012 during Minister of Health and Social Services Yves Bolduc’s visit to India.

Air Canada and SNC-Lavalin also partnered with the festivities, providing two round trip Mumbai-Montréal tickets as a door prize. This year's winner was Dr. Praful Sabadra, from a dentistry school in Mumbai.

The evening’s featured event was a performance of classical Indian music by a dozen young people from the Kalkeri Music School, founded by Mathieu Fortier of the Québec NGO Young Musicians of the World. The students even performed a version of the famous song Gens du pays set to classical Indian music.

The 2012 National Holiday’s guest of honour was the Maharashtra Minister of Public Health, Family Welfare and Protocol, Suresh Shetty. His presence confirms the Maharashtra government’s willingness to consolidate and develop bilateral cooperation with Québec.
