On April 23, Jean-François Lisée, Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade, met with Gloria Lo, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.
Ms. Lo, who is interested in developing more activities and relations with Québec, pointed out Hong Kong's importance as both an Asian and an international economic hub.
It should be noted that Québec's exports to this territory grew by 14% between 2003 and 2012. Hong Kong is currently Québec’s 7th trading partner in Asia and its 26th trading partner in the world. Many businesses have set up shop there, including Bombardier, the Bank of Montreal, the Aldo Group and Fordia.
The Québec government regularly organizes trade missions to Hong Kong, including three that took place in 2012 in the ICT, medical technology and cosmetic sectors. Export Québec and the Québec Government Office in Shanghai work closely with their partners – Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKDTC), Canada-Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce, etc. – in organizing these activities.

In the interest of developing relations, seven Québec companies participated in the Hong Kong International ICT Expo from April 12 to 17. This annual ICT event is organized by the HKDTC and offers a wide-ranging program of presentations and seminars in a huge exhibition hall.
Buyers, major industry players and hundreds of companies from around the world come to the Expo to look for business solutions, partners and outsourcing opportunities to China. The networking sessions made it possible for Québec organizations to meet several potential collaborators.
In addition, the Montreal Financial Centre and Finance Montréal recently travelled to Shanghai and Hong Kong as part of the mission of the World Trade Centre Montreal in order to assess the potential of the two Asian cities. The Québec Government Office in Shanghai supported their efforts by scheduling 25 business meetings.
