Along with about 50 other photographers, Quebecer François Nadeau was invited to take part in the 2013 World Photographers Focusing on Beijing event, held in May by the Information Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality.
The official opening of the event, which marked the start of the photographers’ seven-day shoot, was held on the site of the 2013 Beijing International Garden Expo. François Nadeau, spokesman of the international photographers, addressed the dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony.
François Gaudreau, Director of the Québec government office in Beijing and Acting Director of the office in Shanghai, took part as a guest of honour alongside a number of representatives of foreign embassies and governments.
The Ministère des relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE), the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications (MCC) and the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) supported François Nadeau’s participation as a guest photographer.
The photographers swarmed across the city, taking pictures of scores of historic and heritage sites such as the following:
- Temple of Heaven
- Forbidden City
- Summer Palace
- Beijing Opera House
- Beihai Gardens
They also explored business streets, modern neighbourhoods and new artistic and cultural hot spots.
The event received extensive local media coverage. The participation of a Québec photographer is another good example of the good relations between Québec and Beijing.
