The Minister for Tourism, Pascal Bérubé, was on mission to New York from June 23 to 26 to promote Québec in the U.S. as a tourist destination and meet with economic players in the tourism sector.
The Minister took the opportunity provided by his visit to highlight the Québec Original promotional campaign posters currently displayed at New York newsstands and bus shelters. He also met with a number of major players in the tourism sector, including the New York State Executive Director of Tourism, Gavin Landry, and several heads of professional groups and members of tourism distribution networks.
Minister Bérubé also met with Terry Dale, President of the United States Tour Operators Association, and a number of journalists who specialize in tourism to provide information on Québec’s tourist attractions.
Cruises: A high growth sector
The Minister had a chance to discuss the excellent results in terms of traffic levels of cruise ships on the St. Lawrence River with executives from NYCruises, New York City’s cruise development agency. Development and collaboration opportunities were likewise discussed.
A priority clientele
The American market represents 50% of Québec’s international tourism revenue. “That is why it is important to make our neighbours south of the border aware of our identity and added value as a tourist destination,” noted the Minister.
Destination Québec has offices in New York, Chicago, Mexico City, Berlin, London, Paris, Beijing and Tokyo. Their mandate is to promote Québec as a tourist destination abroad.
