Pierre Moscovici, the French Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, paid a working visit to Québec on September 27 and 28. The issues up for discussion were the economy and investment.
Aerolia’s first North American plant
Minister Moscovici, together with the Premier and Minister Marceau, participated in the kick-off of construction work for Aerolia’s first North American plant on September 27. The new facility, which is located in Mirabel, will also house the headquarters of this French company. In 2011, Aerolia was chosen by Bombardier to design, manufacture and maintain the central fuselage section of the new Global 7000 and 8000 business jets. The Government of Québec provided a $5 million financial contribution to the project as well as an interest-free loan of $10 million.
During his visit, Minister Moscovici also spoke at the French Chamber of Commerce in Canada and HEC Montréal.
France is ranked second, after the United States, for the number of foreign companies established in Québec. In 2012, nearly 300 subsidiaries of French companies were established in Québec and 143 Québec companies were established in France. In 2012, 41% of total Canadian exports to France came from Québec.
