Haitian Minister of Culture at the Salon du livre de Montréal
Justin Viard, Consul General of Haiti in Montréal, Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Haiti, and Maka Kotto, the Minister of Culture and Communications
Josette Darguste, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Haiti, visited Québec from November 20 to 25, 2013, for the 36th Salon du livre de Montréal, where Haiti was the guest of honour.
In addition to participating in the opening ceremony of the Salon, Minister Josette Darguste was received by her counterpart Maka Kotto, the Minister of Culture and Communications, and was presented to the Québec National Assembly.
This visit fits perfectly with the objectives of the Joint Declaration on Cooperation in the Fields of Culture and Communications (French only) to increase opportunities for collaboration between Québec and Haiti. The Declaration was signed by the governments of Québec and Haiti during the 2008 Francophonie Summit in Québec City.
Minister Maka Kotto carried out a mission to Haiti in May 2013. This visit was an opportunity to witness firsthand the real passion of young Haitians for Québec literature in particular and Québec culture in general.
