Economic mission in Southern Africa yields immediate results

Export Québec is conducting a multi-sectoral business mission in Southern Africa from January 26 to February 6.

Export Québec’s mission in Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa, which runs until February 6, has already yielded positive results: a $1 million contract has been signed.

Thanks to its cutting-edge expertise, Québec-based company CMAC Thyssen has completed a new order for underground mine drilling equipment in Zambia. The equipment was developed specifically for African needs.

The order, valued at $1 million, is the logical outcome of this company's activities in this region of the continent, where mining resources are plentiful and Québec's strengths can be utilized.

It should be noted that during the 2010 mission in South Africa organized by the Québec government, CMAC Thyssen signed a partnership agreement with Maxen Holdings.

The Québec companies’ schedule in Zambia also included meetings with the senior management of a few major mining companies in the northern part of the country.

In Tanzania, the multi-sectoral business delegation’s entire schedule took place in Dar Es Salaam, the country's economic centre, where personalized business meetings were held at the operating sites of Tanzanian companies.

Alain Carrier, head of the Québec delegation, was assisted by Canadian High Commissioner Alexandre Lévêque and his team, which helped develop the schedules for the companies.

A networking activity for Québec's business delegation and influential members of the Tanzanian business community was also held.
