Québec hosts the Republic of Senegal’s Minister of Culture and Heritage

On April 11, the Québec government welcomed Senegal’s Minister of Culture and Heritage and Chairman of the steering committee for the 15th Francophonie Summit, Abdoul Aziz Mbaye.

Mr. Mbaye was in Québec City to attend the Québec City international book fair (Salon international du livre de Québec–SILQ), where Senegal was the featured country. The next Summit will take place in Dakar on November 29 and 30, 2014. This year’s theme is “Femmes et Jeunes en Francophonie: vecteurs de paix, acteurs de développement” (La Francophonie’s women and young people: vectors for peace, actors for development).

In his capacity at Chairman of the upcoming Summit’s steering committee, Mr. Mbaye met with organizers of the 12th Francophonie Summit, held in Québec City in 2008. Discussions focused on policy, protocol and communications issues related to an event of this nature. Mr. Mbaye greatly appreciated the meetings and said he was very pleased by what he had derived from them.

The visit also provided an opportunity to present the Québec government’s potential contributions in key areas of the Dakar Summit: youth, the economy and the status of women. Québec wishes to take part in the discussions during the Dakar Summit’s activities and forums.

Mr. Mbaye was also interested in how the Québec City Convention Centre operates since Dakar’s International Conference Centre – where Francophonie heads of state and government will meet during the Summit – is currently under construction. Mr. Mbaye discussed the Centre’s organizational structure in terms of major event planning.
