Québec City hosts International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development

Québec City has been chosen to host the province’s first sustainable tourism event. From March 17 to 19, the International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development will be an opportunity for guest speakers from a number of countries and public and private players in the field of tourism development to discuss principles and practices in the field of sustainable tourism.

The program for the symposium features talks by experts and decision-makers from Québec, elsewhere in Canada and abroad. Participants in the event will include Jean-Marc Eustache, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Transat A.T. Inc., Edward Sanders, President of EcoTourism International, Thomas Niebuhr, Environmental Manager of Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, Alain Dupeyras, Director of the OECD’s Tourism Program, and Jonathan Tourtellot of the National Geographic Society. Québec Minister of Tourism Nicole Ménard is also expected to attend the event.

In addition to plenary sessions held at the start and end of each day, the symposium participants will be able to attend workshops designed to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and sharing of experience in areas related to sustainable tourism, such as sustainable destinations, branding, marketing, tourist industry recognition and certification.

The first edition of the International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development is an initiative of the Ministère du Tourisme du Québec, deployed in collaboration with the Transat Chair in Tourism at the École des sciences de la gestion, part of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
