French/Québec Fund for Decentralized Cooperation (FFQCD): call for projects

The deadline for submitting projects to the French/Québec Fund for Decentralized Cooperation (FFQCD) is April 30. The Fund provides French and Québec partners with matching financing for innovative joint projects aimed at fostering local development. Projects may be socio-economic or cultural in nature or relate to sustainable development.

In Québec, one or more local, municipal or regional bodies, agencies or institutions must participate, with priority given to projects involving multiple participants. In France, one or more local governments must participate, with priority given to projects involving two different regions.

This initial call for two-year projects will provide funding for initiatives scheduled to begin in June 2009.

The Fund has supported 25 projects since it was established in 2005. The creation of a fund designed to foster cooperation between regions of France and Québec was approved at a bilateral leaders’ meeting in 2004. At their meeting in Québec City in July 2008, Prime Minister François Fillon and Premier Jean Charest agreed to double the Fund’s total budget from $300,000 (€200,000) to $600,000 (€400,000) by 2010, co-financed equally by France and Québec.
