At the end of May, the City of Montréal welcomed a delegation from Seattle, led by Mayor Gregory Nickels, made up of about 70 representatives of the region’s economic, educational, cultural and institutional sectors. The purpose of the mission was to find out more about Montréal’s practices with respect to public transit, the cultural and entertainment industries and development of the information technology and aerospace sectors.

In addition to representatives of the City of Seattle, the delegation included people from the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, the University of Washington, Boeing and Microsoft. The trip featured talks and industrial tours. The delegates were able to take in a presentation on street gangs by the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) and find out about Bixi, Montréal’s new public rent-a-bike system. The participants also met people from Ubisoft, Cirque du Soleil and Bombardier.

The Québec government office in Los Angeles provided support for the preparation and deployment of the mission. Washington is one of the 13 western American states covered by the Québec government office in Los Angeles.
