Symposium aims to strengthen Québec-Bavaria relations
Following a meeting with the Minister-President of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer, on June 30, Québec Premier Jean Charest announced that a symposium will be held next year concerning industrial hubs involving companies and institutions from Bavaria and Québec. The goal of the event is to reinforce and finalize new economic and technology partnership projects in a number of target sectors.
“The Québec-Bavaria cooperation initiative comes on top of nearly 400 other projects that have been carried out thanks to the important and productive relations that unite our two governments. With this symposium, we will be placing the friendship that unites our peoples at the service of the economy, innovation and research. This announcement marks the 20th anniversary of a relationship that was formalized by the cooperation declaration signed in 1989 and enhanced in 2008. In economic, social, institutional and cultural terms, we have accomplished great things together and the future looks bright,” said Mr. Charest.
In addition to meeting with Minister-President Seehofer, Mr. Charest also held discussions with three Bavarian ministers and the head of the Bavarian Business Association, Randolf Rodenstock, focusing on negotiations towards a trans-Atlantic economic partnership agreement between Canada and the European Union. “The Bavarian government and business community have always been key allies of Québec. I would like to thank the Minister-President for his efforts and for supporting this exciting project that will bring benefits to both of our economies,” concluded the Premier.
