The 30th edition of the Québec Language, Culture and Society Internship was a resounding success. Over the years, this three-week program, established and funded by the Ministère des Relations internationales (MRI), has been attended by scores of French teachers from around the world. This summer, 73 people took language and teacher training courses aimed at expanding their knowledge of Québec language, culture and society.

As well as promoting Québec and La Francophonie, the program seeks to showcase Québec’s linguistic expertise by supporting the professional development of French teachers from around the world. The participants gain a clearer understanding of Québec and of pedagogical tools designed to facilitate the teaching of French in their home countries.

For the second consecutive year, the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC) partnered with the MRI in the program, allowing for a larger number of interns.

The MRI is pleased to be involved with two major francophone post-secondary institutions, Laval University and the University of Montréal. In addition to teacher training courses, a variety of seminars and cultural activities sparked the participants’ interest and gave them new insights into Québec society and culture. Bonds of friendship were also strengthened between francophiles from Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium (Flanders), Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Germany, India, Japan, Spain, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan and the US.

Expressing appreciation for the program and their stay in Québec, the participants were presented with certificates of completion at the closing ceremony. A number of these new ambassadors of Québec culture hope to come back to La Belle Province for vacation or further studies.
