The details of Québec’s presence at the 37th Festival internacional Cervantino, where it will be the guest of honour in October, were revealed on August 26 by the Minister of Culture, Communications and the Status of Women, Christine St-Pierre. This announcement was made in Montréal before the Consul General of Mexico, Edgardo Flores Rivas.
The Québec government is providing financial support to the artists who are featured in this festival, which is recognized as the largest arts festival in Latin America. Cervantino is also one of the largest multidisciplinary festivals in the world. This event will host more than 2,000 artists from some thirty countries.
“Québec has a rare cultural vitality that is known around the world. As the guest of honour of this prestigious festival, many of its artists will be given the chance to offer a fine, diverse and daring program that will surely captivate Mexican audiences. It will also be a unique opportunity for them to make a name for themselves among event programmers in the Spanish-speaking world,” announced Minister Christine St-Pierre.
As for the Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand added, “Today, the spotlight placed on Québec talent by this prestigious festival reflects the close ties and excellent relations that Québec has with the State of Guanajuato and Mexico. We have been building alliances and conducting cooperative activities for many years based on our joint interests, and culture is a key sector.”
