Québec-France Understanding: workers can apply now
Premier Charest in Montréal.
Québec and French workers in 11 trades can now apply for recognition of their qualifications under the Québec-France Understanding. The announcement was made on January 25 by Premier Jean Charest in the presence of Québec representatives of the professional orders and trades gathered in Montréal.
“The efforts of the Québec and French authorities have led to 22 MRAs thus far, and we will intensify our actions in order to enter the final phase of implementation of the Understanding. We hope that the professional authorities will apply the common procedure, which will enable professions and trades that are deemed equivalent to conclude MRAs facilitating access to the regulated trades and professions,” explained Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie Pierre Arcand.
The trades concerned are bricklayer-mason, carpenter-joiner, heavy equipment operator, ornamental iron worker, painter, resilient flooring layer, roofer, shovel operator, ski lift mechanic, stationary engineer class IV and tile setter.
Applications from French graduates wishing to have their qualifications recognized in Québec are processed by the ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles.
