Minister Arcand to visit Haiti

Pierre Arcand, Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, will carry out a mission to Haiti at the end of April. He will be accompanied by a small delegation of institutional partners and businesspeople. The purpose of the mission is to assess the deployment of assistance that Québec can offer Haiti.

According to the Minister, “We have heard the call of Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, and will align our efforts with the priority needs expressed by the Haitian government. Québec has much to offer in the areas of education and governance. Our companies also have expertise that can be very useful for the rebuilding.”

The Government of Québec has deployed a number of efforts since the earthquake in order to provide Haiti with emergency assistance. The Premier of Québec, Jean Charest, has met with the Haitian Prime Minister on a number of occasions since the natural disaster to make sure that Québec’s efforts correspond to the country’s needs. A ministerial committee has thus been created in order to coordinate and ensure the efficiency of Québec’s collective efforts.
