Ambassador Albert R. Ramdin, the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), made an official visit to Québec City on November 4. He notably met with Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, the Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie.
The OAS Assistant Secretary General was recently re-elected in March 2010 to another five-year term. He took advantage of the meeting with Minister Gagnon-Tremblay to promote the OAS’s inter-American agenda and draw attention to certain hemispheric challenges.
In the wake of the International Policy, which was published in 2006, Québec participates in the work of the OAS through the Canadian government. Québec’s presence at this multilateral forum contributes to strengthening its commitment to the Americas. The ties established between Québec and the OAS mainly centre around the development and reconstruction of the Republic of Haiti, as well as public security, justice, education, and culture.
