Japanese earthquake: Humanitarian organizations appeal to Quebecers’ generosity

In the wake of the disaster in Japan and its impact on hundreds of thousands of people, several Canadian humanitarian organizations have banded together to collect donations and invite Quebecers to support efforts to help Japan.

The Humanitarian Coalition is currently evaluating needs. The funds collected will be sent to the Coalition’s Japanese partners, who will use the money directly to meet the needs of people affected by the disaster. The Humanitarian Coalition groups together the following organizations:

  • Save the Children Canada
  • CARE Canada
  • Oxfam Canada
  • Oxfam-Québec

The Canadian Red Cross has launched its own fund-raising campaign. The proceeds will support efforts on the ground by the Japanese Red Cross and the international Red Cross.

People who want to contribute to the cause via The Humanitarian Coalition can make a donation on the Coalition’s website or mail their contribution to The Humanitarian Coalition, CP 281, Succursale Saint-Jacques, Montréal, Québec H3C 2S1.

To contribute to the Red Cross campaign, see the Canadian Red Cross website.
