    Québec supports the Climate Group’s EV20 Initiative

    In Copenhagen for the 15th Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Premier Jean Charest announced Québec's support for the EV20 initiative. This initiative aims to bring together the leaders of 20 cities, States or nations with vehicle manufacturers, fleet owners and financiers involved in the development of the electric vehicle sector in order to accelerate the development of this market.

    Promoting Québec’s leadership role in the fight against climate change

    Premier Jean Charest and Line Beauchamp, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Parks, are currently in Denmark during the 15th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. They will be promoting Québec’s leadership role among the international community in the fight against climate change while underscoring the adoption of strict greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction targets.

    Les Violons du Roy triumph at Carnegie Hall

    On December 11 and 12, Les Violons du Roy and La Chapelle de Québec, under the direction of Bernard Labadie, performed Handel’s Messiah and Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

    Russian mission generates spin-offs for Québec companies

    Premier Jean Charest and his Minister of International Relations and Minister responsible for La Francophonie, Pierre Arcand, are pleased by the results of their mission to Russia. They both painted a bright picture of the economic, political and institutional meetings they took part in from December 7 to 11 in Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

    Québec-Egypt university cooperation

    The Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and the Ministry of Higher Education of the Arab Republic of Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to intensify university cooperation between Québec and this Francophonie partner in the Middle East.

    Québec and Moscow sign joint cooperation declaration

    On December 8 at Moscow City Hall, Premier Jean Charest and the Mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, signed a joint cooperation declaration aimed at developing bilateral relations. The leaders thus expressed their desire to build closer economic, cultural and educational ties, among other ways through exchanges of people and knowledge.

    Québec plays key role at ACSUS’s 20th biennial conference

    Approximately 500 people attended the 20th biennial conference of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS), which was held in San Diego at the end of November. The conference is the main North American forum for US academics and researchers specializing in Canadian and Québec studies.

    Québec authors visit Spain

    Spain welcomed several well-known Québec authors in November. The writers were in the country to take part in activities supported by the Québec Government office in Barcelona. An initial lecture tour organized by the International Association of Québec Studies (AIEQ) was devoted to authors Neil Bissoondath and Pierre Szalowski. Another event, flowing from an exchange between the Centre des auteurs dramatiques (CEAD) and the Sala Beckett (Beckett theatre) in Barcelona, focused on playwrights Evelyne de la Chenelière, Catherine Léger and Larry Tremblay.
