    Québec well represented at 2013 edition of SIAL China food marketplace

    Considered to be one of the world’s leading food trade fairs, SIAL China 2013 was held in Shanghai from May 7 to 9. A group of 11 Québec businesses were there to promote their products.

    Technology: Québec mission to Hong Kong

    Seven Québec companies took part in the International ICT Expo, held in Hong Kong in April. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the annual information and communication technology event featured a variety of talks and seminars, along with a trade fair in a huge exhibition hall.

    China: a tourism market with huge potential

    Minister of Tourism, Nicole Ménard, headed an economic mission to Beijing, Jinan and Shanghai, China, from April 6 to 15, 2012, to present Québec as a tourist destination in this rapidly growing market. She was accompanied by representatives from the Ministère du Tourisme, Tourisme Montréal, the Société du Centre des congrès de Québec and Aéroports de Montréal.

    It was as the guest of honour at Cleantech Venture Day in Lahti, Finland, that Québec ended a fact-finding mission of cleantech companies in Nordic countries from April 23 to 27, 2012.

    China: a growing market

    After Japan, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Pierre Corbeil, continued his Asian mission in China, a country that offers huge development potential for Québec agri-food products. The Chinese are the world’s largest consumers of pork. However, it is currently impossible for the Chinese agricultural community to increase production to meet the growing demand. “This mission to China is very important for Québec companies. By developing a sustainable business relationship, they can maximize their opportunities to take advantage of this rapidly expanding market,” said Mr. Corbeil.

    Jean-François Lisée, the Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade, referred to the collaboration between Québec and China as very active in an address at the premiere of Raise the Red Lantern performed by the National Ballet of China in Montréal on February 21.

    Québec products in the limelight in Beijing

    The third edition of a Québec products showcase was held at Shin Kong Place department store in Beijing from January 5 to 20, 2013. The event was organized by the Québec government office in Beijing (BQB), in collaboration with the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur and Tourisme Québec.

    Mission to China: Deputy Premier looking to expand economic ties

    Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food François Gendron will be heading an economic mission to China from November 12 to 16. Mr. Gendron will provide support to some thirty Québec companies that will be travelling to Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Shanghai to participate in activities in the aerospace, cosmetics and agri-food sectors.

    Young university graduates to create the Jardin du Québec in China for 2014

    Two young graduates from Université de Montréal (UdeM), Catherine Blain and Valéry Simard, both with Bachelor’s degrees in landscape architecture, won the call for proposals issued by the UNESCO Chair on Landscape and Environment at Université de Montréal (CUPEUM) in collaboration with the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE) and the Québec Government Office in Beijing.
