    Québec takes part in 27th meeting of Francophone Ministerial Conference

    The 27th meeting of the Francophone Ministerial Conference was held on December 1 and 2 in Paris. The second-most-important agency of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), the Ministerial Conference is made up of ministers of foreign affairs and ministers responsible for La Francophonie from the OIF member states and governments. Its mission is to ensure the implementation of decisions made at the previous Francophone Summit and prepare the next Summit. Québec was represented at this year’s meeting by Michel Robitaille, Premier Charest’s personal envoy to the OIF.

    International Year of Forests 2011 recognized in Rome

    On November 23, the Québec Government Office in Rome and the Ministère des Ressources naturelles et de la Faune put the International Year of Forests 2011 in the spotlight with a day of discussions on sustainable forest management showcasing the Québec model and the expertise that has been developed in Québec in this field. The symposium was attended by about 50 sectoral experts.

    Québec targets business tourism at international trade fair in Spain

    Québec took part from November 29 to December 1 in the EIBTM Global Meetings & Events Exhibition, held in Barcelona. The event is one of the world’s leading business tourism trade fairs. A number of countries set up highly innovative booths designed to draw the attention of the 14,000 industry professionals from around the world who attended the trade fair.

    Québec – U.S. relations: New York State Senator Malcolm Smith visits Québec

    Discussions on the development of high-speed rail links between Québec and the United States continued on November 28 when Québec Premier Jean Charest received a visit from New York State Senator Malcolm Smith. Minister of Transport Pierre Moreau and Québec Delegate General in New York John Parisella accompanied the Premier at the meeting.

    Fifty sugar maples donated to Rhône-Alpes region

    As part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Québec Government Office in Paris, the Québec government gave 50 sugar maples to France’s Rhône-Alpes region. The planting took place on November 21 at the Saint-Jean d’ Arvey arboretum in Savoie in the presence of Delegate General Michel Robitaille and about twenty students from the vocational agricultural school in Cognin who planted the trees.

    ACSUS Conference: Québec studies alive and well in the United States

    The 21st Biennial Conference of the Association for Canadian Studies in the United States (ACSUS), which was held in Ottawa from November 16 to 20, brought together close to 500 participants. The event, which received funding support from the Ministère des Relations internationales (MRI), is the main North American forum for specialists and researchers in the fields of Canadian and Québec studies.
