    A first for Québec: World Congress on Information Technology

    The World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) will be in full swing from October 22 to 24, 2012, at the Palais des congrès de Montréal. The world’s preeminent information and communication technology (ICT) gathering, WCIT attracts over 3,000 world leaders from the business, government and academic communities of over 80 countries. The Government of Québec is one of the main sponsors of the event.

    MRIFCE receives new mandate related to external trade – transitional period

    Following the formation of the new Cabinet on September 19, 2012, the Ministère des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (MRIFCE) was tasked with a new mandate, i.e., the export mandate previously assigned to the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation (MDEIE).

    Québec - France: A direct and privileged relationship based on innovation and creativity

    The Premier of Québec carried out her first mission to France at the invitation of President François Hollande to establish contact with French political authorities. During her visit, both governments laid the groundwork for a new stage of relations based on innovation and creativity, especially with regard to youth, culture and the economy in order to further affirm the uniqueness of relations between France and Québec in concrete terms.

    Pauline Marois received by President of French Republic

    Québec Premier Pauline Marois kicked off her first mission to France by holding discussions with the President of the French Republic, François Hollande. During a joint press briefing with the President, the Premier underscored Québec’s attachment to France and the desire of her government to strengthen this historic relationship even further.

    La Francophonie will develop an economic strategy

    Pauline Marois, the Premier of Québec, welcomes the decision by the heads of state and government to call for the Francophonie to develop an economic strategy that will be tabled at its next Summit in Senegal in 2014. The Premier wanted to underscore her avowed desire to strengthen the francophone economic space by pooling the efforts of all economic players.

    Pauline Marois leads first mission abroad

    Québec Premier Pauline Marois will begin her first mission abroad by taking part from October 12 to 14 in the 14th Francophone Summit, in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). She will then carry out an official visit to Paris, where she will meet with senior officials of the French Republic. She will be accompanied on the mission by Jean-François Lisée, Minister of International Relations, La Francophonie and External Trade.

    Québec participates in UNESCO conference on digital heritage

    Michèle Stanton-Jean, the Québec Government Representative within the Permanent Delegation of Canada to UNESCO, participated in a major conference of experts in the field of digital documentary heritage in Vancouver in September. The purpose of this event, which was jointly organized by UNESCO and the University of British Columbia and which received funding from the Government of Québec, was to explore the main challenges facing this sector.
