Québec supports the International Festival of Films on Art

Minister Jean-François Lisée and Maka Kotto, Minister of Culture and Communications, announce that $202,000 in financial support will be given to the 32nd International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), which will be held from March 20 to 30 in Montreal.

“The International Festival of Films on Art has won over the world by presenting a range of novel and striking film productions for over thirty years. This annual event, which celebrates the diversity of creative practices around the world, features talented local artists and contributes to our city’s cultural influence abroad,” explained Minister Lisée.

“The International Festival of Films on Art is an invitation to open the doors to our imaginations, which are usually shut. The films shown by this festival are unsettling, astonishing. At times they fill us with admiration, at times they baffle us. But their creativity always fascinates us," added Minister Kotto.

FIFA’s mission is to increase public knowledge and appreciation of art.

Its main objectives are to:

  • Promote the work of artists.
  • Support and make use of input from professionals working in the fields of film, video and television.
  • Encourage the national and international film industries to increase their annual production of films on art.
  • Stimulate the development of international markets and the participation of producers, directors, distributors and professionals in the arts, film and cultural milieu, both in Canada and abroad, through emulation and networking.

This year, FIFA will screen 270 films from 34 different countries.
