New York charmed by Québec fashion

Representatives of 28 Québec fashion industry businesses had a chance to show off their creations during the Moda Manhattan trade fair in New York, held from February 23 to 25. The trade mission was organized by the Québec government office in New York (DGQNY), in collaboration with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and World Trade Centre Montreal.

The high point of the mission was a networking evening — a chance for the Québec participants to expand their network of contacts with American industry partners. Dominique Poirier, Québec’s Delegate General in New York, took the opportunity to stress the quality of Québec creations.

“The New York market is ready for Québec creations. The competition is still fierce. For our companies to stand out, we need to encourage initiatives that tap into their group strength,” she said.

The mission was highly appreciated by the participants. According to Nick Hudson, sales agent for Marie Saint-Pierre, “We are very happy with the work done by the Québec government office in New York. This work is crucial. A government office can be a key advantage when it comes to building relations in a highly complex and competitive market.”

In addition to forging ties with key partners such as store buyers, the trade press and trade show organizers, the mission gave the participants high visibility and allowed them to chalk up firm sales of over US$2 million.

Additional sales of over $500,000 could be finalized over the coming months.
